iBAM?

iBAMflyer.jpgiBAM course in Europe?

I have talking to the leader of Business As Mission Resource Team about doing a Introduction to Business as Mission Course here in Europe. You can read more about the course at their website or their flyer.

The big question for me is this:
1. Is there a need for this type of course?
2. Will people attend?

To answer the first question myself, then yes I really think there is a need. I think we need or I need to understand better how to apply Biblical principles in our daily life. We hear a lot in church about family and relationships*, but very little about work and how the Bible applies there. This is where I think iBAM course could really make a diiferents. I know it wouldn't answer all the questions, but it will get us thinking.

Now the other big question is will people attend? I don't know. What do you think? Read the info and tell me what you think.

Microfinance

I've just started to make micro-loans. The website that I use helps me help them that have none. I can loan a little amount to help a person to start or build up a business.

For only $25 I can help people in need. When I get the money back and I can either lean it out again or have it transferred back to my own account. At first I was not sure if it worked, but now I have received some of the money back. And the system makes it easy to lean it out again, so that's what I done to a woman in Nepal.

There are many different websites that can help you do this, so do a search and find a way to help with micro-loans. You can start by reading Wikipedia microfinance

In my car I learned about IKAR and Tikkun.

I was on a little business trip where I drove my car to Copenhagen a 3½ hour drive. I like that time in the car. I normally listen to some books I have on my iPod. This time I listen to Speaking of Faith a radio program that's once a week, that I have as a podcast. I listened to 3 different programs, but the one that I remember best is an interview with Rabbi Sharon Brous. She is a young Rabbi that's on fire for her community and the world! So you have to listen to this program "Days of Awe" listen to the "Unheard cuts".

Usury - one more time

I'm surprised how this subject just got very interesting here in Denmark. There is a new type of loan called SMS-loan. You can only load from around $180 to $550 for just one month, but the yearly interest is equivalent to 2229%. If you loan $180 it will cost you $54 in interest!! So if you are loaning the money because you did not have enough to buy that new iPhone or whatever, that you just have to have. You might get what you want, but you will be poorer than before. The SMS-loan is aimed at young people, who it seems don't know better.

So if you have not seen that short video on usury that I linked to in my last blog, you should see it now.

Usury

I just re-watch a 7 minute video on Usury. If you don't know what it is, then I would recommend you watch it. Prabhu Guptara gives a very good and easy to understand explanation of usury. It might change the way you loan money. Prabhu's blog is very good too, I have a link to it here on my blog.

Here's the link to the video called Conflicts of Interest. It's on a site called Big Picture TV which also has a lot of other interessing videos.
